National Dance Week Events

The spring concert represents a culmination of two semesters of work by students in the Performance and Applied Dance class. The program, which will feature approximately 30 DCC students, includes modern dance choreography by Zanchetti and guest choreographers Julie Manna and Ricardo Viviani
The celebration of National Dance Week in the Mid-Hudson Valley will culminate at Dutchess Community College with performances of the DCC Annual Spring Dance Concert on April 28 and April 29, and a day of dance master classes and a Hudson Valley Dance Showcase on Saturday, April 30. All events are free and will be held at the main campus in Poughkeepsie. Additional Celebrate Dance events will take place throughout the week at studios and schools throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley area. All National Dance Week in the Mid-Hudson Valley events are free. The DCC Spring Dance Concert will be held Friday, April 29, at 8:00 p.m. in the Dutchess Hall Theater, and a preview performance will also be held on Thursday, April 28 at 12:30 p.m. at the Theater. The spring concert represents a culmination of two semesters of work by students in the Performance and Applied Dance class taught by Adjunct Instructor Anne Marie Zanchetti. The program, which will feature approximately 30 DCC students, includes modern dance choreography by Zanchetti and guest choreographers Julie Manna and Ricardo Viviani, as well as student works featuring traditional and ethnic dance techniques. Anne Marie Zanchetti received her BFA in Dance from the University of Arizona. After moving to New York, she became a soloist with the Paul Sanasardo Dance Company. As part of the SUNY New Paltz Summer Study Abroad Dance Program, she has performed in Italy and Prague.
The final Celebrate Dance event starts at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30th at the Dutchess Hall Theater with a free showcase featuring performing groups from throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley. Performances are anticipated by groups from the New Paltz School of Ballet; Newburgh Performing Arts Academy under the direction of Amy Conner and Kim Turner; South Junior High School under the direction of Karyn Tomzak; Dutchess Community College under the direction of Dr. Holly Molella and Anne-Marie Zanchetti; Blanche’s Off Broadway Performance Troupe under the direction of Jodi Amato; Step by Step Dance Studio under the direction of Ronda Barber; Anita-Jean Dancers under the direction of Laurie Chikeles; Joanne’s Dance Studio, Inc under the direction of Joanne Ray; the Estelle and Alfonso Dancers; and the Mid-Hudson Ballet Company under the direction of Estelle and Alfonso.
The Showcase on April 30 also features a team of dancers from a three-day precision dance workshop taught in part by former Radio City Rockette Karyn Tomzak. Tomzak, who teaches at South Junior High School in Newburgh and who choreographed productions of A Chorus Line and Grease at Dutchess Community College, is holding open auditions for the precision dance workshop on Sunday, April 24 at the Newburgh Performing Arts Academy, 62 Grand St., Newburgh, at 2:00 p.m. Dancers must be at least 13 years or older and have at least 4 years of training in tap, jazz, and ballet. All participants accepted into the workshop must be available for rehearsals on Monday April 25, Wednesday April 27, and Friday April 29, and for the dress rehearsal and performance at the College on Saturday, April 30.
